Posed outside the back of the garage, 312 presumably has just received the replacement engine from one of the Birmingham Daimlers bought for spares in September 1964. It was the only Roe-bodied Daimler to receive one, the others being fitted to the ones with Crossley bodywork.
Buses fitted with replacement engines could always be identified as the chrome-plated radiator shell from Birmingham was fitted instead of the painted one previously carried.
