National 1312 peeks out of Friarmere Road in Carrcote on 21st April 1981, waiting to join Denshaw Road, which can be seen disappearing towards the village of that name. Saddleworth has four divisions or meres (Lordsmere, Friarmere, Quickmere and Shawmere) but this is the only road name featuring any of them. Friarmere, as the name implies, was once monastic land.
