One of SHMD’s last batch of Atkinsons (and amongst the last Atkinson buses ever made) passes under the new bridge. This photograph was taken just after the roundabout at Mumps was completed in 1970, as SHMD 111 received the SELNEC fleet number 5071 not long after. It was withdrawn by early June 1971. This bus is a Northern Counties-bodied Atkinson and was not unfamiliar with renumbering, as when new it was numbered 94.
This scene has changed a great deal since the photograph as the railway and roundabout have gone to be replaced by a new tram line crossing on the level which in turn has since been closed with diversion of the tram route through the town centre.
