67413 on the long climb from Waterhead to Scouthead. The white painted buildings behind are unusual for the area. A little further down, where a car can be seen parked at right angles to the road, was the Birks Hotel (which went under several names over the years). This closed in 1937 and had, until changes to local government in 1894 leading to the establishment of Lees and Springhead Urban District Councils, been the meeting place for the Local Board.
