Bristol trolleybus chassis HW 7082 Phil Sposito collection

Subject: (HW 7082)
Chassis: Bristol E
Body: none
Location: Bristol, Brislington Body Works
Date: 1932

The chassis of the two Bristol trolleybuses were originally built as motorbus chassis, but were later converted to trolleybus. The HW 7082 registration is presumably the temporary registration carried by this as a motorbus, as neither trolleybus was so registered.

The chassis is seen in the Brislington works yard whence it would carry out trial operation as a completed vehicle, using a return skate to operate over the Bristol tramway.

To the right in the background is the Arnos Court Triumphal Arch, originally across the road but moved to its present location in 1912. The main building visible is no longer standing, having been largely destroyed during the 1940/1 air raids on Bristol. It was the chapel of Arnos Court which was at the time the Good Shepherd Convent Approved School (having previously been called a Reformatory School). As a consequence the school moved, initially to Bathford, never to return.
