Bristol C2706 (HAE 17) Bristol Anchor Lane BVBG

Subject: Bristol O. C. C2706 (HAE 17)
Chassis: Bristol L5G
Body: BBW B32D
Location: Bristol, Anchor Lane
Date: c.1950

C2706 is parked up in Bristol’s dockland on Anchor Lane, a short road which gave access to the GWR Canon’s Marsh goods station.

The area has seen major regeneration and the transit sheds in the background were demolished in December 1997 and the curved building on the corner has gone. However, the remainder of the building to the left of the bus, that was the City Lead Works, has been restored. This had been built by Rowe Brothers in 1884.

C2706 also regenerated, as Pontypridd 65, where it ran from 1952 to 1957. Subsequent to this view it had been rebuilt in Bristol’s ownership (some time between 1948 and 1951) with a rectangular destination display and a sliding front door, along with a rebuild of the floating cab to a fixed cab.
