Although this seems to be officially numbered 234, it carried a “call sign” on the nearside of “Charlie 34”. It was one of a fleet of minibuses operated by Shamrock and Rambler using the historic Charlie’s Cars fleetname, an operator they took over in 1963.
This vehicle is recorded as being one of two (the other was E235 NFX) that were on loan from 25th July to 20th August 1988, making it the last day of operation in Pontypridd.
It’s possible that these vehicles were available due to the imminent retrenchment of the Charlie’s Cars operation. It had started the day before deregulation on 25th October 1986 and was to cease completely from 3rd December 1988, only just outlasting Taff-Ely.
