721 has just passed the point where the X12 route would later terminate, as the road off to the right is Sackville Street leading to Chorlton Street, which would have been a bus station at the time of the photograph.

There are plenty of Daimler Fleetlines in evidence, most prominent being Manchester 4717, but in the background is one of North Western’s own along with an example from the SHMD fleet.
