Subject: United 1000 (UGR 500R)
Chassis: Leyland Leopard PSU3D/4
Body: Duple Dominant C47F
Location: Oldham, Regent Street
Date: 1983/4

This vehicle seems to have spent a lot of its life allocated to Scarborough and so would presumably be a natural choice to borrow for duplication on this service. However, photographs of United vehicles working this service are rare.

This was the first Leyland Leopard delivered new to United (they had some earlier ones inherited with the Wilkinson’s of Sedgefield business) and had been diverted from South Wales. In 1985 it was rebuilt and received the traditional United olive green and cream coach livery, which looked very smart.

From an original slide in the David Beilby collection, photographer unknown.
