With the building of the Sardis Road bridge there needed to be space to accommodate buses that previously terminated there, as no parking was available. A new parking area was created at the back of the station but as it meant passing under the High Street bridge it meant it was only available for single-deckers.

It was also used a lot by Rhondda vehicles on the Porthcawl services as well as by Bebb, Edwards and Maisey. The Caerphilly service on which 97 is departing is one that used to terminate on Sardis Road.
