The Howell family has been in the jewellery business since 1870 and still trades today as Charles Howell, although no longer from a permanent shop.

It was set up at 10 Mumps by Edward Howell, but over the years expanded and moved down the generations. The advert is from the Oldham Centenary Shopping Scheme booklet from 1949 and shows the premises expanded to 8 Mumps as well. By this stage it was run by Joseph Howell and Sons. The odd word at the top left is not an error, a theme in the booklet was “hidden” words and this is an anagram I shall leave for you to solve.
