The date new is date in service. The photograph is dated March 1949 and shows 1 at Oriental Bay on a test run (although as it is on tow I'm not sure what was being tested).

When 1 was withdrawn it was the last true Crossley in passenger service in the world, with exception of sister vehicle 4 which ran but one day longer.
