Five AEC Q trolleybuses were built and this was the first. Only one other example worked in the UK at Southend, the other three went to Sydney.
Based on the advanced AEC Q motorbus chassis, this featured an offside-mounted traction motor and a forward entrance ahead of the front axle. Commonplace now, the layout was revolutionary at the time. The vehicle featured a very high seating capacity for the time (63) and had another feature common to all AEC Qs - single rear tyres. In a throwback to older technology, it also featured a tramway-style lifeguard.
A brochure featuring this vehicle can be found at http://.../q-trolleybus.pdf
, containing a lot of technical information on this vehicle and saloon layouts.
