This bus was built as a Daimler demonstrator for the South African market, arriving there in Nov-1950 and registered CA 17161. It carried Johannesburg livery although never owned by them.
It made a demonstration tour of the country involving some quite difficult roads and an account of this can be found in the Commercial Motor of 1st February 1952. It was sold to Klaasen's Bus Service, Port Elizabeth and re-registered CD (or CB?) 3661 in Oct-1951.
The registration seen on this photo was seemingly for display purposes only, the letters of course being those of H. V. Burlingham’s initials. The registration appeared again on a very similar bus at the 1951 Festival of Britain, one which went on to become Rossie Motors, Rossington MWU 750.
