Saddleworth trams

Tramways were never built in Saddleworth, although there were proposals for quite an extensive network. This map shows the extent of the tramways proposed and their connections with those actually built.

The Railless Electric Traction Limited promoted a series of trolleybus schemes in Parliament in 1911, one of which was the Oldham and Saddleworth District Railless Electric Traction Bill. This was to operate various trolley vehicles in the Borough of Mossley and the Urban Districts of Saddleworth and Springhead. It got to the Select Committee of the House of Lords but was withdrawn before the second reading. There had been objections from the West Riding and Lancashire County Councils and Saddleworth and Springhead Urban Districts.
