The Guy Arab IVs were new with the compact PUDC fleet name and were all delivered new (apart from the last pair 87/8) with the simpler style fleet numbers. Whilst these seem to have been fitted fairly consistently on repainted vehicles the policy was confusing as the Guy Arab LUF single-deckers that were contemporary with these Arab IVs always ran with shaded fleet numbers.
