Subject: Caerphilly UDC 14 (FNY 414)
Chassis: Daimler CWA6
Body: Duple UL27/28R
Location: Caerphilly, Station Terrace
Date: late-1950s

It is probably a quirk of vehicle diagramming rather than capacity requirements which saw a double-decker working the service from Caerphilly to Ty Rhiw. The return journey from Ty Rhiw only ran as far as Nantgarw and the bus would then have operated a works journey, probably from Treforest Trading Estate.

The service to Ty Rhiw only ran on schooldays and the only departure from Caerphilly was at 1535 (at least this was the case in 1966). It ran to Taff's Well School where it waited ten minutes before continuing to Ty Rhiw.

14 had the distinction of being the first double-decker in the Caerphily fleet, new in 1944. Its body had been rebuilt with rubber-mounted windows by 1957 and it remained in service until 1960 and was replaced by Caerphilly's first thirty foot-long double-deckers, PD3s 27 and 28 (827 and 828 HNY).
