Subject: Mexico City buses Chassis: AEC S-type Body: English Electric B34D Location: Preston, Dick, Kerr works Date: 1923
English Electric won the order to body six AEC S-types for Mexico City. The whole batch is shown here under construction, with the nearest vehicle mounted on its Michelin pneumatic tyres. A 'mechanical tyre pump' was provided to maintain air pressure as required, pneumatic tyres on larger vehicles were still quite unusual at this date.
The buses appear to be nearing completion, following which they will be packed in cases for shipment to Santa Cruz, the final 500-mile leg of their long delivery being by rail to Mexico City.
