Schofield’s shop on George Street always seemed more prominent to me, probably because buses from Saddleworth stopped right outside it, but the one on Union Street survived longer. It is now occupied by Skidmore’s cycles. This advert in the Oldham Centenary Shopping Scheme booklet of 1949 includes an anagram as part of a competition, hence the strange word!
