Subject: Oldham C. T. 39 Location: Union Street, Oldham Date: 1920s
Tram 39 heads west along Union Street on the Circular service. This 1902 tram had been built as an open-topper but later received a top cover as seen here.
The tallest building to the right of the tram was originally the Union Street New Connexion Methodist Church, opened in 1875. In 1907 the New Connexion Methodists merged with two other churches to form the United Methodist Church. Although it closed in June 1981 and was demolished three years later, some of the facade survives as part of the courtyard in front of the replacement office block.
The building on the extreme right was a a billiard hall.
