Subject: Huddersfield C.T. 5 (VH 5727) Chassis: Karrier E6 Body: English Electric H32/28R Location: Preston, Dick, Kerr Works Date: 1933
English Electric bodied just two trolleybuses for Huddersfield, which were part of the initial delivery of six experimental trolleybuses. There is no visible identification on this vehicle and I have based my view that it is 5 on the dark nearside headlamp, which from photographs seems to have been a feature of the Karriers. I have no explanation for this, not the apparently darker offside sidelight above the windscreen as seen here.
If my assumption is wrong it could then be 6 (VH 5728), which was an AEC 661T chassis with a body that was identical, at least from this angle.
Renumbered 405 in 1942, this trolleybus was withdrawn by the end of 1947 and along with the other members of the initial fleet was sold by the end of that year.
The livery was actually maroon on the lower deck panels with red above along with cream bands. However, the use of non-panchromatic film (hence not sensitive to red) has made the livery look much darker than it actually was.
