31 had been a 5LW-engined Guy Arab II, but by 1957 (and thus at the time of this shot) it had been fitted with the more powerful 6LW unit. It was one of the early utility bodies to be rebuilt and received the distinctive window pans seen here.

It is turning from Taff Street into Mill Street but it is not clear what it was working at the time. The destination blind doesn’t offer any clues either.

Harp lager, as advertised on the bus, was only becoming established at the time. It had only been launched in 1960 with larger-scale production starting in 1961.
