The 46 is one of Vienna's most solitary routes, for apart from sharing a terminal loop at Dr.-Karl-Renner-Ring and a length of shared track in Ottakring, it runs on exclusive track for its full length with a solitary crossing of a single other route, the 5. At under 5km long it is also one of Vienna's shortest routes.
As can be seen from the photographs it is dominated by the shorter ULF cars, with both A and (mainly) A1 variants being seen. E1 cars with c3 and c4 trailers make limited appearances on Mondays to Fridays. All trams are provided by Ottakring depot, not surprisingly as the depot is right by the terminus.
