239 was one of the first postwar buses delivered to Oldham which enabled the last tram route, the 20 to Waterhead, to close. There were fourteen of them and they were the only 7'-6" wide double-deckers bought new by Oldham after the war (although they did buy some secondhand ones in 1965/6). By the date of this photograph, 28th March 1966, 239 was nearing the end of its days. It was on a short working to Market Place, following which it would probably return to the garage.
