This service has a long history which will eventually be covered in more detail. However, the history at present will only cover from the time when Rhondda Buses took over the service from National Welsh when the latter collapsed until the takeover of Rhondda Buses by Stagecoach. Historically it had been a Red & White route operated from Aberdare (with a bus out-stationed in Porthcawl at one time) and right until the end of National Welsh it was exclusively operated from Aberdare depot.

The service remained very stable through the period with the only change, from 27th July 1996, being that the first and last journeys from Aberdare on Mondays to Saturdays were supported by Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council and were tendered with Shamrock operating the morning journey and Stagecoach Red & White from Aberdare the last journey.
