Given the date this was probably a short-term loan to Ashton garage during Oldham’s September week, when peak services in particular were reduced.
It is passing through what was the Audenshaw terminus of Manchester’s 215 trolleybus, as well as the junction of the 126 and 218 services to Stalybridge. The latter service, which ran along Ashton Old Road, is the one being worked by 5178.
In the past this scene was dominated by a large girder bridge carrying the railway line from Ashton Moss junction to Droylsden. Now the site on the left has been completely transformed into Metrolink’s Audenshaw stop.
