Subject: Cynon Valley B. C. 4 (C603 KVP) on hire to Taff-Ely B. C. Chassis: Freight Rover Sherpa 350D Body: Carlyle B16F (on Dormobile shell) Location: Pontypridd, Morgan Street Date: 27-Sep-1986
The Cynon Valley Sherpas were hired by Taff-Ely as their own pair of Ford Transits had been withdrawn and there were no suitable other vehicles in the fleet. They would have caused some confusion as some of them didn't carry fleet numbers and although they were numbered 1 to 5 and registered C602-606 KVP they were numbered (in registration number order), 3, 4, 5, 1 and 2.
They arrived in the then-current Cynon Valley livery but soon had the "go faster" stripes added. However, they didn't last long in that livery and were taken in turn to Southend where they were painted in the new Halifax-inspired orange, green and cream livery. By the date of this photo three of the batch had already been painted and this one was painted the following month.
