Subject: Rhondda 288 (PNY 390)
Chassis: AEC Regent III 6813S
Body: Weymann H32/28R
Location: Pontypridd, Catherine Street
Date: 19-Apr-1962

288 descends Catherine Street on the joint service with Pontypridd UDC that ran as far as Porth.

The building on the right is the little-photographed and rather splendid Co-op in Pontypridd which featured an arcade leading from Market Square. It was a large shop, managed by one Compton Davies around the time of this photo. The 30th Birthday Event advertised in the windows would seem to imply the store opened in 1932 but I have been unable to verify this. Parts of the store, built in a neo-classical style, still survive on Church Street and are Grade II listed.
