S115

This is a real rarity, being an AJS Commodore that was new to Tom Shaw. At the time there both Greenfield and Oldham operations of Tom Shaw but vehicles moved between the two and this could be working for either.

AJS was A J Stevens & Co (1914) of Wolverhampton and are probably best known for motor-cycles. They only produced bus chassis for less than three years. The Commodore was introduced in October 1929 and about sixty were produced before the company went into liquidation in October 1931.

The style of body seen on this coach is described in one advert as a "Coupe de Ville" which is best known as a type of Cadillac. This style is different to the Cadillac interpretation and can also be described as a Sedanca de Ville, in which the driver is in a separate compartment from the passengers, with communication possibly by speaking tube!
