409 was the first of the five Crossley-bodied PD2s bought by Oldham to be rebuilt due to structural corrosion. The extent of the rebuild can be seen in the flush-mounted windows downstairs which were originally recessed like those upstairs. The rebuild proved too expensive and the rest of the batch were not done, although 410 was stripped down in readiness. 409 is seen here passing Oldham Town Hall in early SELNEC days and would eventually receive the number 5309.
