The gallery is devoted to the trams of Innsbruck, a city with a majestic setting surrounded by mountains. The urban tramway is unremarkable apart from this environment in which it operates but the system is characterised by its very distinctive Alpine lines. Of these the Stubaitalbahn has a totally-unique character and runs in unrivalled scenery for a tram route.

The gallery looks at each service running today, with the addition of the closed line to Hall in Tyrol, and has a brief history of each service. I have not attempted a fleet history and I would refer you to Ray Deacon’s excellent book “Innsbruck’s Alpine Tramways” which also features some very clear maps.

Things are by no means static in Innsbruck and new lines are currently under construction which will bring new and interesting features to the system. I hope to get the opportunity to feature them in due course.
