I seemed to only choose to photograph this bus in poor light. I recall on this day after taking this picture (with a shutter speed around 1/60th second with the lens wide open in the middle of the day on 400ASA film) I decided that it wasn't a good day for photography and went off to do something else!

This area around Pontcynon has changed very little in the intervening years. As the blind indicates, N2978 is working an NCB contract but I don't know where it was headed, it could well be getting in position for a working to Tower Colliery.

N2978 is here working from Aberdare and in the mid-eighties at one stage it was in the regional mothball fleet. Later at Bridgend, it was part of the initial Rhondda Buses fleet by that time numbered 638, but was withdrawn in Aug-1993.
