Subject: Bradford C. T. 703 (DKY 703)
Chassis: Karrier W
Body: East Lancs H37/29F
Location: Thornton, Thornton Road
Date: 21-Mar-1972

703 is on the new road built in 1922 and formally opened in 1923 by the Prince of Wales. The road was straightened from Rhodesway up towards Thornton but more significant was the levelling in this locality. Previously the road dipped down to cross Pitty Beck, which is now culverted here. The extent of the work is more obvious on the other side with a lengthy and decorative stone retaining wall.

The Bedford TK lorry in the foreground was such a popular vehicle at the time that they were taken for granted, but they have long disappeared from everyday use.
