There is nothing in contemporary timetables to indicate why this bus would be in this particular location. It is likely that it was providing transport to, or more probably from, the nearby Llanfaes Primary School. I'm intrigued as to how the photographer knew it would be there!
What had been Rhondda 364 is now Western Welsh 2364. Although it declares itself to be proud of being part of the National Bus Company, the condition of the advert is not reflecting much pride.
The partially-visible destination shows that the blind is still the original from its days in Porth. However, the destination New Penrhys Road is not seen in any other photos and no road of that name exists today. It seems to be a historic name for Penrhys Road in Tylorstown although it doesn't appear even on old maps.
