A cooling tower of Rotherham Power Station dominates the scene behind as 27 enters Rotherham. From Don Bridge it has come along Rawmarsh Road which curves in from the right at the triangular building in the background. It is passing the Bridge Inn and will turn left onto Bridge Street to cross Chantry Bridge.
That 1927 bridge replaced the original Rotherham Bridge, some of which still remains and includes its bridge chapel, considered the best preserved in England.
27 is fairly new here - the overhead configuration helps to date the photograph. The wires in the opposite direction led to Greaseborough, a service that was abandoned in 1951. The photographer is standing on a roundabout at the junction which had only been a post-war addition. 27 will take a left turn at the frog, as described above, the other wires went round the roundabout and allowed trolleybuses from Rotherham's depot at Don Bridge to get directly to Greaseborough without going through the town centre.
27 was sold to Bradford after operations ceased, becoming 841 in that fleet after rebodying.
