A splendid panorama across the valley from Blaenllechau with Oak, Elm and Pine Streets in Ferndale visible at the top of the picture. Rhondda Fechan Farm is clearly visible with the current housing there still some time in the future. Prominent on the left is the Salisbury Hotel, below which is the playground of Ferndale Junior School, closed in 1996. To the right of that 389 is just crossing the Rhondda Fach on its way to Blaenllechau.
The large building to the right was the Ferndale and Blaenllechau British Legion Club (imagine being a switchboard operator there!) which has since been demolished. Immediately to its right is Taff Street which once was also the way to the station, whilst in the foreground are the remains of the goods station which unusually closed before the passenger station.
