Subject: Rhondda 388 (388 WTG)
Chassis: Leyland Tiger Cub PSUC1/11
Body: Willowbrook B45F
Location: Maesteg, Market Place
Date: mid-1960s

The 1964 Tiger Cubs were obvious vehicles to put on the 226 service when it started operation as they entered service around the time of its introduction.

388 still carries its original body here although there has been a need for a repair at the bottom of the front nearside corner, an area that seems to have been vulnerable on buses of this configuration in Rhondda's hilly operating area.

The bus alongside is United Welsh 122 (WCY 701), one of the special low height Bristol MW6Gs unique to this fleet and needed for the 26 service as it passed under a low bridge, subsequently removed, in Pontrhydyfen. 122 is on a short working just over the hill to Cymmer Afan serving the housing development at Croeserw, by-passed by the through service to Swansea. Around 1970 the main service was diverted that way and these short workings ceased to operate.
