Subject: Belfast C. T. 104 (FZ 7889) Chassis: Guy BTX Body: Harkness H36/32R Location: Belfast, Falls Road depot Date: c.Oct-1947
Buses (both motor and trolley buses) for the UK had to meet stringent tilt-testing requirements to prove that they would not readily overturn in operation. The test was carried out with a full load equivalent upstairs and no load downstairs and a double-decker bus has to tilt 28 degrees without toppling. Belfast Corporation 104 was one of seventy Guy BTX trolleybuses bought in the immediate postwar period, the only six-wheel trolleybuses built by Guy after the war. They had GEC traction control equipment. The coach work was by the local builder Harkness and therefore the tilt testing was carried out in Belfast as seen here. The chosen location is unfortunately-named given the nature of the test - Falls Road!
