Subject: Oldham C. T. 111 (111 JBU)
Chassis: Leyland Tiger Cub PSUC1/13
Body: Marshall B41D
Location: Salem, Lees Road
Date: c.1965

This lovely shot shows Oldham 111 at Lees Brook when fairly new, as it has yet to receive the AA badge that it acquired on its trip to Oldham’s twin town Kranj in Yugoslavia.

All the property seen here has since been demolished, that on the right not long after the photograph was taken. The outline of a building at the extreme left is that of Sett Mill. This ceased cotton spinning as far back as 1920 but survived in various other roles until demolition in 1980.

Note the advert above the bus for rail travel, making reference to the Midland Pullman, a luxury diesel train that ran from Manchester Central to London through the Peak District and East Midlands. This was withdrawn in 1966 when the through electric service started from Piccadilly.
