This tram was one of fifteen numbered 1-15 supplied to Leith Corporation for the opening of services, the official ceremony taking place on 5th November 1905 using one of this batch (believed to be number 6) suitably decorated. These open-toppers were rebuilt with top covers in the period 1912-1914 and this particular tram was one of a handful to receive platform vestibules at about the same time.

The destination shown is Caledonian Station. This was one of three terminal stations in Leith, one owned by the Caledonian Railway and the other two by the North British Railway. This made it important to be specific about which station it was. The Caledonian Railway had just renamed the station from "Leith" to "North Leith" so the terminology used by Leith Corporation was understandable. Confusingly, the station was re-named again in 1952 as "Leith North".

This tram became 238 in the Edinburgh fleet in 1920 and ran until the 1930s.
