Subject: Islwyn B. T. 5 (LBO 729P) Chassis: Leyland Leopard PSU4C/2R Body: Willowbrook B45F Location: Pontypridd bus station Date: 22-Apr-1993
Almost the last in a long line of buses numbered 5, this Leopard had seventeen years under its belt by the time of this photograph and would give another six years service before it was done. The only true number 5 to succeed it (there had been a mininbus numbered 05) was an Optare Delta G509 XBL bought secondhand from Reading Transport in 2006.
5 is heading back home from Pontypridd and is followed by a National on its last days with Rhondda Buses. N621 had been one of the last National Welsh buses based at Barry and was withdrawn a month after this photograph. Athough it appears to be in the late National Welsh red, white and green livery (with a green Rhondda sticker) that is only the front end. The rest was an advertising livery for Red Dragon Radio as can be seen through the windows of the Islwyn bus.
