I believe this had been the original route up until 1954 when the service stopped running via Treharris. That was apart from the first journey on a Sunday in each direction which still served Treharris, presumably to fill a gap in the timetable of the Bedlinog service.
John made a special effort to go and photograph 4 taking this route although to some extent the rareness of the photo was lost when Red & White revised services around Nelson again in 1977 and as part of the reorganisation this service reverted to this original route. However, Sunday mornings were the only time West Mon buses in blue livery could be seen here, by 1977 it was Islwyn instead.
4 seems to have worked the service a lot, although it wasn't a huge fleet so it would appear quite regularly just as a matter of course.
