30 is passing under Ffaldcaiach bridge, the low height of which meant that double-deckers could only work the Pontypridd to Blackwood service in the period from 1954 to 1977 when it didn't operate this way.
The bridge carried the former Pontypool Road to Neath line although by this date this was just a short spur from Nelson and Llancaiach station serving Deep Navigation Colliery in Treharris. The colliery closed in 1991 although rail traffic (mainly to Aberthaw Power Station) would have carried on until 1993 to remove ground stocks. The railway bridge has now been removed with all but the left-hand abutment gone. It has been replaced by a timber bridge for the cycleway which leads to the Taf Bargoed Country Park, a reclamation of the old colliery site.
