Little wonder the photographer never returned to the area after the weather he encountered on this visit in 1969! North Western Fleetline 211 heads on to Union Street at Rhodes Bank. The later North Western Fleetlines had a forced ventilation system which meant that the only opening windows provided were those you can see towards the rear of each saloon. I can vouch from personal experience that they were not enough on hot days, although probably quite sufficient on this occasion. The building at the back of the bus with the higher frontage than its neighbours was once a branch of Lloyds Bank and ended its days as an artists' supply shop.
