Subject: National Welsh U1171 (BTX 325J) Chassis: Leyland Leopard PSU4A/2R Body: Willowbrook B45F Location: Llwynypia, Salem Terrace Date: 24-Jun-1980
U1171 crosses the railway line by Llwynypia station over a bridge which had a seven ton axle load limit at the time, with buses fortunately being excepted. The bridge was subsequently rebuilt.
The Ivor Hael pub is still in business today. The unusual name is that of a 14th Century patron of bards.
U1171 is working the 527 which at the time was a Blaenllechau to Clydach Vale service and a regular haunt of this batch for many years. Only the workings from Penrhys used this road, so that is where U1171 will have come from - the Blaenllechau journeys ran from Llwynypia to Tonypandy via Trealaw.
