U1971 has completed the descent from Penrhys and is joining the main road up the Rhondda Fach in Tylorstown. It has worked from Porth on the revised 527 introduced with the MAP scheme just over one month earlier, on 24-May-1981.

The road layout here has changed greatly since. A new supermarket in the valley on the site of the colliery led to the construction of a roundabout at this junction, much improving the exit from Penrhys Road in the process.
