Subject: Liverpool C. T. 622
Maker: United Electric Car Company, Preston
Truck: Preston 21E
Seating: 42/22
Location: Liverpool
Date: c.1919

622 was one of a batch of twenty-five (609-633) supplied by UEC just as the final stages of the formation of English Electric were being completed. The original scan reveals what is assumed to be a paint date of 11th December 1919 on the back of the top staircase riser.

The rotary destination indicator was already quite old-fashioned even when the tram was new. The photographer's attempt to mask the photograph has been rather crude on the lower deck windows with an unsatisfactory result.

The plough type of lifeguard was a feature of Liverpool trams of the era and was another feature developed by the General Manager, Charles Bellamy. The Board of Trade apparently were not so keen and only allowed Liverpool to use it at their own risk. What isn't clear is how it dealt with vertical curvature.
