Subject: Wallasey C. M. 106 (HF 5248) Chassis: Leyland Titan TD4c Chassis No: 8212 Body: Burlingham H30/26R Body number: 3984 Location: Blackpool, East Park Drive/Lawson Road Date: Dec-1949
This vehicle has a complex history. The chassis was new in 1936 as 26 with an English Electric H27/21D body. It was fitted with this new Burlingham body in 1949 and was very unusual by this time, being one of the last new double-deck bodies on a petrol-engined chassis. Prior to rebuilding it lost its torque converter; Wallsey had been a big user of that transmission and were amongst the last to buy buses so fitted.
In 1955 106 was withdrawn but the body was only six years old so it was fitted on a new Leyland Titan PD2/10 chassis 541851 and registered CHF 565. It kept the same fleet number.
In 1965 it was again withdrawn and sold to Phillips of Holywell who operated it until 1972. It was then bought by dealer Geoff Lister and survived into preservation. It is currently in the Wirral Transport Museum.
