Subject: Bradford C. T. 587 (HNU 826)
Chassis: AEC 661T
Body: East Lancs H35/28R
Location: Blacker Hill, Finlay's (Hartwood Exports) yard
Date: c.1968

587 was withdrawn in 1965, seemingly one of the casualties of a reduction in the Allerton service, but was stored until sold in 1968. Disposals to Barnsley scrap dealers can be quite complex as there was trading between dealers as well. 587 is shown as sold to Fisher and Ford but has ended up here in Finlay's yard.

The aerial ropeway in the background deserves a mention. It was around three-quarters of a mile long and brought coal over the ridge from Wombwell Main Colliery to the Barnsley District Coking Company plant which would have been quite prominent if the photographer had turned to the right.

From an original negative in the David Beilby collection, photographer unknown
