SP6367 NSWGR 4601 bogie Liverpool Docks

Subject: NSWGR 4601
Location: Liverpool, Gladstone Dock
Date: c.1956

The No. 2 end bogie from 4601 is caught in mid-air during the transfer from its transport to ship. It appears that it is being lifted by Mammoth, a 200-ton capacity floating crane built in 1920 by the Werf Gusto shipyard at Schiedam, Netherlands. It was sunk during World War 2 and Winston Churchill is reported to have insisted that it was raised and repaired.
